Tracey Simpson celebrates her 30th Anniversary at Clowes

Tracey began her career at Clowes Developments in 1990 in the accounts team. Back then, the group’s founder, Charles Clowes was actively involved in the business as Chairman.

Tracey recalls that the group did not have computers at that time so she would do all her work on paper and then transfer it to a computer system used by her ex-employer (the Groups accountancy firm at the time, Flanders) who kindly let her use their systems to safely secure her records.

Tracey spent most of her days visiting the builder’s merchants sites and balancing their books. She has told her colleagues on occasion about some of the scenarios she found herself in, including Brian Harris regularly asking her to balance a 1p difference on accounts, that is until one day she bravely asked him, why?

She recalls many occasions where Charles’ generosity may have led her into dangerous waters, namely, the many social events where Charles would encourage “just another splash” which was especially dangerous as Tracey’s tipple at the time was brandy!

Tracey has witnessed the business grow over the years and move from head office to head office as the business has expanded and more space was required.

Tracey has got some interesting stories to tell from her time working for the Group and no doubt will experience many more over the coming years.

Congratulations Tracey!
