A responsibility to
future generations

Charity

2024 marks a new chapter for the group as we begin to implement our charitable giving policy. Historically, our donations and support for initiative have always been done on an adhoc basis, however, this year, in line with our ESG strategy, we have shaken things up a little and formalised the way we give back to our community.

Employees were invited to nominate a charity, nominations were then shortlisted to ensure the suggested charities align with the groups values and finally employees were invited to vote for their preferred charity.

For the financial period, 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025, the group have elected Derbyshire Mind as the beneficiary of our charitable fundraising initiatives.

Derbyshire Mind is the local independent mental health charity within the national Mind network. Their focus is on improving mental health and wellbeing for people across Derby and Derbyshire.

They provide a range of community mental wellbeing services designed to support local people with mental health problems as well as the wider population. Below is a summary of services they provide.

Crisis Support Drop In

Derbyshire Mind Crisis Support Drop-In services in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote offer an out-of-hours friendly and welcoming community crisis support space open to anyone over 18 experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress. Their aim is to offer support and help at a time of need in a relaxed and comfortable non-clinical environment.

Derbyshire Mind’s ‘Supported Self Help’: is a programme that empowers individuals to support and improve their mental health. It has been created to provide an early intervention service to anyone who is starting to experience symptoms of worsening mental health, such as stress, low mood, bereavement, worry, low self-esteem and so on. They hope that by providing individuals with help and support when symptoms are only just beginning, they can intervene before symptoms worsen and help prevent people from needing more intensive clinical support.

Mental Wellbeing Services

Derbyshire Mind’s community services, at their heart, are fun and enjoyable groups that enable people to connect with their local community. Their services can look like many things and come in many forms, but the goal is always to provide activities that help people to feel part of a community, boost mood, enjoy life and improve mental wellbeing. All of the Mental Wellbeing Activities and groups are specially designed for people who have a mild to moderate mental health condition such as depression or anxiety, or are experiencing low mood and isolation, however no formal diagnosis is needed.

Derbyshire Mind’s current Mental Wellbeing Services include – Art Groups, Walking Groups, a Music Group, a movement and mindfulness group and ecotherapy groups.

Sustainability

We’re fervent believers that sustainability is more than just a box to be ticked. Whether through property development, land development or contaminated land reclamation, the construction industry has a major responsibility to develop sustainably.

In designing and delivering our developments, we’ll do all we can to bring a balanced approach to sustainability. Wherever possible, we’ll make sure we’re accountable environmentally, socially and economically. That way, we can play our part in ensuring a better quality of life for everyone – now and for generations to come.

Planet Mark

Clowes Developments are proud to announce that we are working with Planet Mark to measure our carbon footprint and have a positive impact on planet and society. Through the Planet Mark Business Certification, we will be measuring and reducing our carbon footprint to ensure that we are embedding sustainability into our business practices.

Committing to achieving Planet Mark Business Certification demonstrates our dedication to sustainability. We are excited to start reducing our carbon emissions to help create a planet that is fit for us and future generations.

With the support of the entire business, we’re working to do more good.

We encourage you to get in touch if you would like further details on our journey.

BREEAM
Accreditation

Ingate Works, Battersea

BREEAM is the most widely used system for assessing the environmental performance of buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in vital areas such as construction process management, energy and water use, the responsible sourcing of materials, and the health and well-being of a building’s occupants.

Naturally, we design and build all our facilities with the aim of achieving BREEAM accreditation. To us, it’s more than a level to reach, it’s an expectation to surpass.

Environment

Our commitment to sustainability goes far beyond commercial property development and the design and construction of buildings.

We investigate the site’s history and surroundings, explore how we can enhance its natural elements – including the landscaped area around our buildings – and consider the immediate environment wherever possible.

Experience and a sharp awareness of our responsibility has shown us many ways and opportunities to contribute to the health of the wider environment, from improving the ecology of the site to creating new amenities for local people.
