A responsibility to
future generations
Charity
In line with the Group’s ESG strategy, employees are invited each year to nominate a charity. Nominations are then shortlisted to ensure alignment with the Group’s values, before employees are given the opportunity to vote for their preferred charity.
For the financial period 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, the Group selected Macmillan Cancer Support as the beneficiary of its charitable fundraising initiatives. We are delighted to announce that, over the course of the year, more than £65,000 was raised.
This success can largely be attributed to the Charles Clowes Decade Dinner, held in memory of our founder, Charles Clowes, marking ten years since his passing. The Clowes family organised the event in his honour to support Macmillan, a charity close to their hearts. Additional fundraising was generated through the Macmillan Coffee Morning, held in collaboration with Derby County Football Club, as well as the Group’s hugely popular and well-supported annual charity quiz.
For the financial period 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, the Group has selected Parkinson’s UK as the beneficiary of its charitable fundraising initiatives.
A number of fundraising ideas are already in development, and we look forward to announcing further events and activities in due course.

Planet Mark
Clowes Developments have achieved Planet Mark Business Certification for reporting year 2024– 2025.
Planet Mark is a leading carbon reduction and net zero specialist. With over ten years of experience, Planet Mark is committed to helping business of all sizes find unified solutions to reduce carbon emissions, secure net zero targets, generate long-term business value and deliver meaningful climate action.
Achieving Business Certification is the best first step to take on the transition towards net zero. Planet Mark Members must achieve annual 5% reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and measure some Scope 3 emissions that are within direct operational control (e.g., Business Travel and Waste). We look forward to expanding our measurement remit to take strides towards net zero at a critical time for our planet. We are focused on continuous improvement and are proud to be a Planet Mark Certified Business.
Sustainability
We’re fervent believers that sustainability is more than just a box to be ticked. Whether through property development, land development or contaminated land reclamation, the construction industry has a major responsibility to develop sustainably.
In designing and delivering our developments, we’ll do all we can to bring a balanced approach to sustainability. Wherever possible, we’ll make sure we’re accountable environmentally, socially and economically. That way, we can play our part in ensuring a better quality of life for everyone – now and for generations to come.
BREEAM
Accreditation
BREEAM is the most widely used system for assessing the environmental performance of buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in vital areas such as construction process management, energy and water use, the responsible sourcing of materials, and the health and well-being of a building’s occupants.
Naturally, we design and build all our facilities with the aim of achieving BREEAM accreditation. To us, it’s more than a level to reach, it’s an expectation to surpass.
Environment
Our commitment to sustainability goes far beyond commercial property development and the design and construction of buildings.
We investigate the site’s history and surroundings, explore how we can enhance its natural elements – including the landscaped area around our buildings – and consider the immediate environment wherever possible.
Experience and a sharp awareness of our responsibility has shown us many ways and opportunities to contribute to the health of the wider environment, from improving the ecology of the site to creating new amenities for local people.
