Clowes Developments begin enabling works for the redevelopment of Ewenny Road Industrial Estate in Maesteg.

Clowes Developments has commenced essential enabling works at the former Ewenny Road Industrial Estate in Maesteg in conjunction with Bridgend County Borough Council marking the first step in a major regeneration programme for the site that has lay dormant for over 10 years.

With Grant Funding support from the Cardiff Capital Region, Clowes Developments will enable the long-standing derelict site for future development. The initial phase of remediation, undertaken by Sirius Remediation Ltd, will involve enabling earthworks, decommissioning and diversion of disused utilities, and the safe treatment of mine workings to prepare the site for development.

With planning permission already granted, this preparatory work will pave the way for a major mixed-use development. The regeneration plans include the delivery of up to 200 new homes, high-quality public open spaces, modern retail units, and an enterprise and employability hub designed to support the local economy.

As part of the wider vision for the site, Bridgend County Borough Council will also develop a new transport interchange and employment facilities, enhancing connectivity and access to work and training opportunities beyond the valley.

This strategic investment aims to unlock the potential of the area, boost economic growth, and create a vibrant, sustainable community for residents and businesses alike.

Councillor Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economic Development and Housing, said:

This ambitious project forms part of our Local Development Plan and has been carefully designed to ensure that it meets local housing, employment, and transportation needs.

Once Clowes have completed the ground works, they will have transformed this former industrial estate into our largest local valleys brownfield site with more than 16 acres available for redevelopment.

At the same time, the council is retaining an additional three acres so that we can develop new employment opportunities and a modern transport interchange.

the finished project will deliver huge economic and social benefits for both the Llynfi Valley and Bridgend County Borough, and I am delighted to see that the work is making swift progress.
